Pharrell Williams Curates 'FEMMES' in Paris – A Powerful Tribute to Black Women

Musician, designer and visionary Pharrell Williams returns to the art world as a curator with FEMMES, an exhibition held at Galerie Perrotin in Paris. Open to the public from 20 March to 19 April 2025, the show gathers works by nearly 40 artists from diverse backgrounds, each offering powerful reflections on the experience, beauty, and influence of Black women.

The exhibition creates a multi-layered narrative — challenging stereotypes, affirming identities, and embracing difference — while offering a deeply personal and political celebration of womanhood. From photography to painting and installation, FEMMES amplifies the presence of Black women in contemporary art, often underrepresented in European institutions.

Pharrell’s relationship with Galerie Perrotin isn’t new. His earlier exhibitions Perspectives (2008) and G I R L (2014) explored gender and identity, but FEMMES marks a decisive shift in tone — a collective, urgent statement about visibility, legacy and empowerment.

“There is a deep, indescribable strength in Black women that deserves to be seen, honoured, and archived. This show is my humble way of doing that,” Pharrell said during the exhibition preview.

With free admission and a central location, FEMMES invites a wide public to encounter this timely and transformative exhibition — one that not only showcases beauty and resilience but also reclaims the space for Black women’s stories and voices in contemporary art.
