Emília Morais

Emília Morais was born in Uíge, Angola in 1957.

In Angola she attended the course of visual arts and, already in Portugal, she attended the Complementary Course of Image, by António Arroio School, in Lisbon and graduated in Painting by the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon.

She was a Visual Education teacher at Escola Básica Dr. António Augusto Louro, Seixal.

Her first solo exhibition was in Angola.

In 1990, she made her debut in Portugal with a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of the Estoril Casino. Furthermore, Emília Morais participated in several collective exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, such as in Spain, Belgium, Japan, Korea and Macao.

Emília Morais and her works have been recognized with awards and mentions, such as the 2nd prize "Novos Valores da Cultura" - State Secretariat of Culture, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in 1988 and the Honourable Mention, "Salão Primavera" - Art Gallery of the Casino Estoril in 1989.

Her bibliography can be found in various national and foreign books such as "Aspectos das Artes Plásticas em Portugal", by Fernando Infante do Carmo and "Guide de Arte Africaine Contemporain" -Association Afrique et Création, 2ême Edition, Paris.

Currently, Emília Morais is represented in the following entities: Lisbon City Hall, Almada City Hall, Seixal City Hall, Amadora City Hall, "Fidelidade" Insurance Company, Estoril Casino (Society "Estoril-Sol"), Setúbal Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and in several private collections in Portugal and abroad, namely in the United States of America, Germany and Spain.

Thó Simões Transforms Pumangol Drums into Artworks

As part of Brands with Art, Pumangol partnered with acclaimed Angolan street artist Thó Simões to create a unique fusion of industrial design and artistic expression.
